NTU-RPI-DTU Innovation Workshop June 2014
"Energy and Environmental Applications of Nanotechnology"

The objectives of this course are:

  • To perform research on an environmental application of nanotechnology or nanotechnological  energy storage or conversion method, by explaining the fundamentals of the subject and reviewing state-of-art in a report.
  • In the report, develop a suggestion for an innovative idea on how to advance state-of-art, based on a more detailed analysis.
  • Plan and execute your work so you to the extent possible can perform basic experimental or numerical tests to support your idea.
  • Gain experience in the challenges of international research collaboration and project planning.
  • Develop your skills in the creative application of learned knowledge in innovative ideas for solving a real-world research challenge.
  • Writing a report in international collaboration.
  • Gain experience in presentation, defence, and peer review evaluation of your work on an international stage within the course.
  • Present your work at at the Grøn Dyst DTU student conference.

This is a 5 ECTS course primarily intended for students about 1 year after obtaining their BSc degree (but others can join too).

The course you will work in an international team of students and supervisors from:

The main part of this course will take place June 4-27th, but we hope some initial project work will be starting before this period.

About half of the 3 week period will be done at DTU where students and supervisors from NTU and RPI travel to DTU - see the detailed program.

The course will end the student groups presenting their work at the Green Challenge conference at DTU.

The available projects for group work are described on the Project page.

Course Practicalities

  • Travel and Insurance Expenses: It is decided by each of the participating institutions to what extent travel/insurance related expenses are paid by the institutions and/or the course students.
    NTU: INFORMATION COMING
    RPI: INFORMATION COMING
  • Accommodation and food during stay at DTU: DTU covers these expenses for all participants.
Students will only have to pay for the spare time activities they engage in.
DTU has booked 12 rooms for visiting student accomodation.
  • The workshop will be using campusnet.dtu.dk as the collaboration platform.

Workload & Assessment:

Effective work load is 3 weeks full time work or 5 ECTS but be aware that additional time will be spent travelling and on social activities at DTU.

There is a fail/pass assessment based on the report, presentation and defense.

You can see last years projects and the reports here.

How to apply and who can join:

The course is primarily aimed at students at the their first year after achieving a BSc degree with background in nanotechnology, but others are welcome to apply.

Please check up on available projects to see more details of what you can choose to work on – if you have little experience in these subjects your personal workload will naturally increase.

  • DTU:
At DTU this course is a 'special course' or a 3-week course at DTU Nanotech. You can also join without getting credits.
DTU enrolled students apply for a Special course by sending an email to Kristian Mølhave on krmo@nanotech.dtu.dk.
From the applicants the 5-10 best students will be selected for the course (exact number will depend on how many will join from NTU and RPI).
Deadline for DTU student application is not yet settled.
