NTU-DTU Innovation Workshop June 2016
- Applications of Nanotechnology

The objectives of this course are:
- To perform research on an application of nanotechnology by
explaining the fundamentals of the subject and reviewing
state-of-art in a report.
- In the report, develop a suggestion for an innovative idea on
how to advance state-of-art, based on a more detailed
analysis.
- Plan and execute your work so you to the extent possible can
perform basic experimental or numerical tests to support your
idea.
- To the extent possible present results in the report from short
experiment giving a hands-on experience on your topic
- Gain experience in the challenges of international research
collaboration and project planning.
- Develop your skills in the creative application of learned
knowledge in innovative ideas for solving a real-world research
challenge.
- Writing a report in international collaboration.
- Gain experience in presentation, defence, and peer review
evaluation of your work on an international stage within the
course.

The main part of this course will take place
03.06.2016 – 24.06.2016, but we hope some initial project
collaboration can start before this period.
About 2 weeks of the 3 week period will be done at NTU
in SIngapore where students and supervisors from DTU travel to
NTU.

Course Practicalities
- Travel and Insurance Expenses for DTU students are covered by a
DTU stipend.
- Accommodation (and some food) during stay at NTU are covered by
NTU.
Accomdation in Hall of Residence 8 (see
map);
- DTU Students will only have to pay for the spare time
activities they engage in.
- Students who join the course should be able to travel to
Singapore in June 2016 with suitable visa
- check-in for flight to Singapore will be approx. on Fri, 10
June 2016 and NTU will organise a Singapore Tour on Sat, 11 June
2016.
- The final project presentation and defence with peer review
will be 23rd June and return to DTU approx 24th june.
DTU Students and travel
Visa:
- The students should be able to enter Singapore using the
regular Social Visit Pass (like a regular tourist).
- For those who require a visa to enter Singapore, they will need
to apply for an entry visa before departing for Singapore; Danish
passport holders do not require a visa to enter Singapore, and
Danish may stay in Singapore without a visa up to 90 days.
- You may wish to refer to the ICA website for the list of
countries that require an entry visa.

Travel stipend:
- DTU supports the students accepted on the course with a travel
stipend of DKK 7500.- in total. This is to cover plane tickets and
food costs in Singapore. For stipend questions, contact Jette
Krøyer Nielsen <jek@adm.dtu.dk>.
- The stipend is expected to be paid out on June 30th.
Insurance:
- All students travelling must have a valid travel insurance. DTU
will provide a travel insurance for the workshop period but not
beyond that. For travel insurance questions, please contact Jette
Krøyer Nielsen <jek@adm.dtu.dk>. To provide the insurance DTU
will need you Name, CPR No, and travel period.
Workload & Assessment:
Effective work load is 3 weeks full time work or 5 ECTS but be
aware that additional time will be spent travelling and on social
activities at NTU.
There is a fail/pass assessment based on the report,
presentation and defense.

How to apply and who can join:
The course is primarily aimed at students at the their first
year after achieving a BSc degree with background in
nanotechnology, but others are welcome to apply.
Please check up on available projects to see more details of
what you can choose to work on – if you have little experience
in these subjects your personal workload will naturally
increase.
DTU: This course is a 'special course' or a
3-week course at DTU Nanotech. You can also join without getting
credits.

From the applicants the 5-10 best students will be selected for
the course
